Leadership and service have been pillars in my life. At the age of 14, I became an Eagle Scout, still one of the proudest moments of my life. Since then, I have been given a diverse range of opportunities - working with impoverished schools in India and Sri Lanka, conducting post traumatic stress syndrome workshops for Hurricane Katrina evacuees in the days after the disaster, organizing tree planting projects, campaigning for the recent presidential election, organizing national bicycle races, and coordinating a national team of teachers focused solely on empowering youth through workshops and service, just to name a few. Each of these activities was done in parallel with my professional career as all aspects of life - service, family, and career - are important to me.
By the age of 24, I graduated from the University of Washington MBA program and joined Amazon.com as a business analyst. I completed my Engineering Masters a year later with a focus on Manufacturing and Operations Management. Currently, I am serving as the Worldwide Lean Manager for the Technical Account Management department at Amazon.com. At a basic level, Lean methodology is a scientific approach to eliminate waste by involving people across the organization – especially those closest to the customer. It is about empowerment and taking responsibility to drive positive change. The Lean methodology that we have implemented has added tremendous value to our customers and I look forward to bringing this experience and knowledge to the citizens of Seattle.
I am running for Seattle City Council because I love Seattle and feel I have a lot to contribute. Although I will be representing the interests of all citizens of Seattle, I bring to the table a strong insight into the youth of our city. They are our future. Youth provide businesses with ingenuity, creativity, and an amazing implementation of technology. Young entrepreneurs are changing our lives in ways we would not have thought of just five years ago, and we need to inject their energy and special knowledge into every aspect of our community, including the political arena. My wife Jameelah and I have been focused on youth empowerment for several years. We have experienced firsthand the transformation youth can bring to the world with the right skills.
In the coming weeks, I will be meeting with experts in a variety of fields to learn how best to address the challenges we face today in Seattle. I have committed to ramping up quickly so that you can hear what I will do in office well in advance of the primary.
Please take the opportunity to donate now to my campaign. A small investment today could have a profound impact on our community for decades to come.
Best Regards,
Brian Carver
